J’apprécie globalement la suite en ligne Google Apps. Elle est facile à utiliser, relativement puissante, et permet de délocaliser facilement les données les plus exposées en cas de problème serveur.
J’étais donc très enthousiaste à l’annonce de la sortie de Google Sites, pensant qu’il s’agissait là de la brique manquante du projet, à savoir un véritable outil de gestion de projet, comme BaseCamp ou ActiveCollab.
En fait, la dernière brique de la suite bureautique virtuelle est bien loin de combler ce besoin. Il s’agit en fait de la simple possibilité pour n’importe quel employé de créer un mini-site, à l’intérieur du domaine de l’entreprise ou accessible au grand public.
J’ai du mal à saisir l’utilité de cette fonctionnalité. La spécificité d’une suite de travail collaboratif étant de donner des outils aux administrateurs réseaux ou à la direction pour mieux interagir avec leurs employés. Quel intérêt donc de créer une fonctionnalité qui s’adresse aux employés eux-mêmes, participant ainsi non à la centralisation et la simplification des flux d’informations, mais à leur multiplication et leur confusion ?
Le créneau reste donc vacant, un créneau qui, s’il était comblé par Google, pousserait nombre d’entreprises à faire le pas. Un outil de travail collaboratif, ciblé sur la gestion des milestones et des tâches comme l’excellent Trac, avec, soyons fous, une gestion collaborative des travaux graphiques avec annotations en temps réel comme le fameux ConceptShare. Le tout couplé à des forums de discussions pour des brainstorming produits et des propositions d’améliorations, à nos listes de taches RememberTheMilk et à nos Google Calendars, et Google prendrait là un segment de marché – les TPE/PME technologiques- fort intéressant.

Concernant la confidentialité, c'est la concurrence qui régulera ces questions là. Si un des grands acteurs faillit quant à la protection de nos données, leurs parts de marchés s'effondreront du jour au lendemain. Gardons en tete qu'Internet permet la volatilité.
Quant aux concurrents, je pense qu'il s'agit d'un combat entre géants, car les petits qui innovent ont vocations à se faire avaler assez vite. Pour l'instant je distingue Yahoo! (Zimbra), Google Apps, Microsoft Sharepoint, 37Signals (Basecamp and co), Sugar CRM.. Les autres vont avoir bcp de mal à se faire une place.
